China has canceled 10 percents of the death penalty
China has canceled about 10 percent of death sentences in various areas. Cancellation is done since the high court began to review the death sentence in 2007, as efforts to reduce restrictions on capital punishment.
"Most of the cancellation of the verdict based on lack of evidence, procedural errors or assessment of the sentence imposed is too severe," said the Head of Research of China Hu Yunteng Supreme Court quoted by China Daily on Friday (11/26/2010).
During this time, China is believed by many groups of defenders executed than any other country. Most are believed to be a death sentence without a clear legal basis.
"We want to make sure if the use of capital punishment is accurate and error free. We also want to respect and protect the rights of the accused," said Hu.
Most of China's death penalty imposed on suspects of crimes such as murder and robbery. But the accused drug abuse and cases of corruption can also sentenced to death.
